I love the photo and presentation of this story, and even agree the big bang is just a profit driven construction that had to be drawn up to save some jobs. But relativity is a thing, not dependent on big bang, the doppler shift you hear in the siren of a fast moving emergency vehicle whizzing past is relativity at work. We need to engineer all kinds of communications systems on moving platforms to account for it. Light bending by refraction can only happen in a medium with sympathathetic molecules which vibrate in response to the light, thus retransmitting the light to change its direction, with the degree of bending dependent on the density of molecules. In addition to bending the light, it also slows it down, without changing its frequency, like we see happens in optical fibres, some kinds of which use graded optical index of refraction to contain the light. Which molecules would you say might be doing something like that in space?

Also, (This part is just my opinion) Einstein was far from naive, he certainly knew human nature :)
