I like that your story is evaluating humanity with a view to fixing a fundamental problem. How quickly the problem needs to be fixed, and what is the fix, seems to be the thing everyone is avoiding tying down. My own view of the history leading to where we are, and the suggested fix, is hopefully complementary to yours.
