I like that more and more folk are thinking constructively about this, thanks for posting.
We probably all agree that by definition, what we are talking about is the most complex system we have ever tried to analyse and "Fix", in human history. It literally has to take into account and address everything we can possibly think about, including such seemingly diverse things as energy, and human nature. We can do this formally using modern Systems Analysis and Systems Engineering tools, which were not around when historical "Geniuses" like arguably Marx, and Nikola Tesla were around.
Those tools help folk with average or maybe even less intellect (maybe even me!), to take all things into account.
When we do the analysis, we find that all things are connected to all others, and whatever we do, we can't allow the non-physical to override the physical, otherwise the system can't work, and even if it did, it is incompatible with nature, physically unsustainable.
Our current system is an example of the latter.
Where we are at, is most people not understanding how everything connects to everything else, what causes what, and so not understanding which things are non-negotiable, driving all others.
We've somehow become confused into the idea that we can imagine, or construct a system of humanity which will work, regardless of how nature works, when actually it needs to conform with nature.
Right at the root of everything, driving all things is energy. Life itself, is energy at work.
We have to understand what we have got wrong about the way we handle energy, and that has to be fixed, to fix all other things.
So our economy has to conform with that. If we choose otherwise, then we fail on every count. We could talk about, and argue about all other things, seemingly forever, but in reality not forever, because time, and energy on Earth, is running out, much sooner than most folk realise.
