I just see it as lies being driven by the fundamental drive for profit.
I think part of becoming an intelligent individual, that is growing up from a child incapable of looking after oneself, is the realisation we need to make profit, in order to force the energy we need for our bodies, to be given to us by those with energy to give, since without that, we don't get the energy we wish.
In theory a child who always had adequate energy, a child who never experienced anything being deprived, would have no reason to lie or experiment with untruths to get what they might desire, they would have no need even to measure words, they would never have had to learn how to lie, or tell tall stories.
A child rewarded for smiling, when they have no reason to smile, learns to smile even they don't feel so happy. This is a lie many of us learned to tell, even before we knew words, it seems to me.
The problem is the child would probably end itself by over consuming, because they wouldn't know that such a thing could be harmful to themselves.
In the end, the dialog of anyone and everyone in the system of all things for profit, enforced to be scarce otherwise, encourages us throughout life to emit only part of our whole thoughts, we always have to withold anything that might cost us (or anyone profiting from us), profit.
Therefore everything we emit in life is only a part truth, a sales pitch, which is the basis of untruths and lying.
I wonder how many of us would honestly admit to this? :)
