I hope you might see from my response to Will that grids are no longer necessary, actually they are incompatible with, and superseded by domestic and community solar backed by hydrogen. Any and all communities need only a local microgrid, it is the big corporate profit driven mindset that tries to convince us we still need grids and centralised power production, so they can reap profits by essentially having a monopoly on energy. An excess of hydrogen will be generated by the collective of communities in all places, resulting in ubiquitous hydrogen fuel literally on every street corner. Everyone will rewarded for producing as much of it as possible. This functionally replaces fossil fuels with none of the pollution, directly solving almost all of the problems we are seeing, seemingly by accident, because instead of toxic waste, almost all outputs including exhaust gases are valuable products, including drinking water, food, clean air, and never as much heat as would have happened if we never used solar, so it is literally all win-win, because this is actual creation, not destruction disguised as creation, like everything from Earth extracted energy is.
I hope you might see this.
