Presumably Elon is aware also of the rapid developments that have been made in flash Lidar, which has revolutionised Lidar technology. The latest mobile phones from China (Huawei honor V20 for example) are equipped with time-of-flight cameras (“TOF”). These are basically flash Lidar, enabling the phone to be used for markerless motion capture, a feat which was unthinkable from a single camera even a year or two ago. This renders conventional Lidar obsolete.
