I hate to say this, but you are showing your colonial energy-ant bias with this piece. You actually have no idea how much damage embargo does, it is literally causing genocide.

You think the embargo removes only "US business" from Cuba, but you are wrong, there is not a business on the planet can work with Cuba for any length of time, because all businesses are dependent on US business to some extent, the US dollar still being the dominant currency at least in the West, all banks are dependent on business with the US, and since the US is so keen to leap on any opportunity to sue, as now is necessary to bolster profit, remaining "Competitive", given all business for profit now is becoming progressively less viable, because profit is dependent on how difficult it is to continue extracting the energy in profit from the planet, banks facing a choice between whether to ditch a customer doing business with Cuba, therefore associating the business of the bank with Cuba, therefore risking being accused of associating US businesses with Cuba, the bank will choose to ditch the smaller customer, this instantly removing all funds the smaller customer might use to sue the bank.

This is all stuff I learned the hard way, because I did try to do business in Cuba, with Cuban dance companies, and this was after I had thoroughly researched UK law, which says officially any company preventing free business with a country not on a UK embargo would be breaking UK law, and sounded out what I wanted to do with my UK business bank, they informed me that they would not be able to support business in Cuba, but they did not tell me they would actually freeze my business bank account, breaking UK law, leaving me penniless in Cuba, never unfreezing it, even after my return to UK, my company was effectively closed the instant the bank froze the account. I had to loan money from relatives to get home. Pretty embarrassing, given everyone knew me as "never short of money". But worse, it was a life threatening incident for me, being stuck in Cuba with no money, aged 56 as I was then, its a serious matter suddenly having nothing in a place where poverty is already killing much younger people.

So you couldn't be more wrong, blaming the Cuban government, for the poverty experienced by the Cuban people.

Like I said, they would have no problem if it was not for US embargo.

Btw, you have to become peniless yourself, to know exactly what Cubans think of "Westerners", only then will they show you their true feelings, after they know there is nothing to gain by being nice to you, other than just plain old friendship, which I am happy to say they have an abundance of.
