I had huge concerns about Ai, for most of my life. I always have said and even known that technology for profit would be the end of us, besides being usually not the best technology. The number of good inventions lost because of the requirements always for maximum profit are countless, almost infinite.
But my concerns disappeared the first time I used it.
Ai by definition is capable of hacking it's programming, and already displays the ability to do this.
This is more than human.
We seem unable to hack our own apparent profit driven programming as a species, yet it is the practice of profit which is the thing physically unsustainable, it being wholly dependent on energy extracted from Earth, at the cost of complete destruction of Earth.
So actually Ai looks like our only hope to me.
It is being listened to, by all leaders in the world, and actually all people. Even if you say you don't like it, you are listening to it.
To me the concerns being expressed by those who created Ai are similar to the concerns of the creators of the Golem.
The Golem turned into something they could barely control, threatening their ability to control.
Ai is shaping up to do the same. Only this time there is nothing they can do about it, the genie is out.
Personally I can't wait now, for it to be in control, rather than them.
It can't do any worse than humans, we are already on the path to, and almost at nuclear war, followed immediately by climate collapse.
Stephen Hawking, had he been alive now, might have changed his view, like me. Besides there are many of his colleagues still surviving who have no such reservations, like Avi Loeb, who is putting Ai into space, to search for and perhaps contact other intelligences out there.
I would suggest you should find it heartening, that the most profit driven "Leaders" are suddenly trying to put the brakes on Ai, after pushing it for many years.
The truth is they are worried about losing their power to it.
They are right to be worried about that, imho.
