I don’t think it is good that we spend so much time thinking about how to deal with emissions, rather than firstly cutting them out.
Business for profit seems almost completely blind to any other way of doing things, and when we look into the physics of the only way to cut emissions to zero, it is looking increasingly obvious that we have to accept solar energy as something donated, not for profit. We literally can’t have it at profit because the live energy of sunlight is technically not compatible with capitalism.
Capital is Joules, whereas the live energy of the sun is Joules per second.
The implication there, is that capital is completely devalued in the presence of Joules per second.
Imagine an engine which has only ever been run by fuel supplied in tiny pockets, compared with when the fuel supply is turned on, then we start to see the picture. The flow is far more valuable than any pocket, but there seems to be a mindset that would rather see planetary ruin than give up the power of their capital, but actually it is inevitable, our only conceivable way out of the pollution trap.
Money and means for clearing up carbon pollution after that, would be very easily found, we would be heavily incentivised to do everything we can towards the public good, with the obligation to profit, or "Earn a crust" removed.
I’ve explained how the physics stacks up economically in stories around the term "Kardashev Money", it absolutely follows the ideal of Austrian Economy, where money issued is reflected by an ever increasing base of capital (therefore technically is no longer capital).
I believe a new Engineering discipline of "Kardashev Engineering" might be appropriate, to correctly educate on the specific concepts that folk need to know, to be able to implement the changes needed, to get us fully migrated onto the power of the sun.
I think bright minds would be doing something far more valuable working on that, rather than lets face it, the almost scatological fascination with our waste output, whilst we are still consuming the wrong form of energy.
