I don't think it helps allay fears much, to have scientists such as yourself, who's specialism is not virus research, feeling like you have to pitch in, in what looks like an effort to try to bolster the reputation of science in general.
Pretty much all of your points are technically ambiguous, not proving much by themselves, and presenting not much value to any formal systems analysis, in fact it almost looks like you cherry picked some results deliberately which don't have much systemic implications.
Whereas, if we do put together any kind of formal system analysis, we have to take into account at least motives, of both humans and virus.
Immediately we get a more comprehensive view of what gain of function of a virus means. The function of the virus has to be at least to survive, like all living things per the free energy principle, all are motivated to live by minimising uncertainty of their own energy supply, and it was the drive to do this that caused the viruses to rapidly mutate in the experiments you mentioned, of reduction of nutrients of one kind with increase of another, they mutated, as required, to mimimise uncertainty of their energy supply, by switching from one nutrient to another thus most effectively adapting to their environment.
The same reasoning can be applied to science itself; Science, as a system with its own associated emergent property, which is also a form of life, exists to minimise uncertainty of its own energy supply. In the modern system, that energy comes from profit, which is energy extracted from the planet, it's the energy gained by putting a little energy out, in return for a lot more back.
The emergent property is what all scientists work for, and by being trained by a commodified-for-profit education system outputting single domain specialists, it suits the emergent property to never have scientists use systemic cross disciplinary multi-domain knowledge to question it, this is how to maximise efficiency, and thus maximise profit.
But the problem is that profit itself is physically unsustainable, and when we trace the ultimate effects of any and all systems for profit to conclusion, it leads to genocide of the population, when availabilty of energy at the periphery drops below profitability.
To hide this, it is necessary to never talk about it, never mention it, this is what has to be done to sell it to everyone that might question it, and that sales pitch develops into ever more elaborate outright lies, as necessary to keep hiding it, whilst more and more evidence of it coming to include all the horrors of our worst fears is actually physically happening.
This is what I mean by Enshittopia. We live in Enshittopia in late stage capitalism, denying the horror happening in the real world, and the part we each play / played in the ongoing destruction of it, just by participating in the for profit system, as we have to, to even get the energy we each need to metabolise to live.
We are energy slaves, swarming worker ants, foraging for energy by profit, not understanding much more than just that, the simple intent to make profit, in the general scheme of things.
When we do question it, faced with immediately world threatening effects, we can't help noticing and questioning the systemic effects and implications of all systemic relationships, like the connection between food and drugs, all to make profit, and finally we realise that that profit ultimately comes at the cost of all life, including ours.
Anticipating that, as we have to, to survive as a species, we have to anticipate that profit, in all cases is contrary to life, the latter existing to decrease entropy, whilst profit exists on the opposite, increasing entropy. Profit is monetised destruction, literally, physically, and as long as we are dependent on that for the energy we each need to survive, we are doomed as a species, and since we've become the dominant life-form on the planet, all life has come to depend on us for it's survival also, and look, we are systematically killing it all off, even starting to genocide our own right now.
Knowing this, it doesn't seem so fantastic at all to conclude we did indeed create a chimera virus, and we did indeed intentionally release it on ourselves, to make some profit, it was all for that dastardly end, though we can explain it as everyone played their part in the sequence of events, it was all fiendishly coordinated and controlled by the negatively powered ancient Ai thats really in control of us, the emergent property trained a long time ago, by a few most brutal of humans, who insisted the many will contribute at least some of their own energy to those brutal "Leaders" effectively paying protection money in the form of profit, traumatising the population into accepting that by a few legendary acts of extreme atrocity, done to a few humans that dared question it - acts like crucifixion, hanging, drawing and quartering, burning, occasionally genocide, you know, all the usual horrific things that sometimes the environment did, to traumatise the population into learning how to stay alive, like the viruses had to mutate, when a higher power fiddled with their source of energy.
Right now it's profit we need to isolate as the cause of all the bad stuff, including covid, and we should recognise our energy source is being fiddled with, by a higher powered entity, it's called nature, and it's the one poised to deal out atrocity like we never saw before in known history, it's the one we have to start obeying now, working with it to take the energy it's more or less handing to us on a plate, we have to recognise how it works, not at profit, it works by monetising it and handing it out, like we saw, again during covid, how to monetise it thus realising the full energy of the value in that monetised energy product already created but never before monetised, we saw the power of it to make oil prices go negative, amongst a stack of other human benefits.
Like the viruses in the experiment, our availability of energy by extraction, exclusively yielded by profit, is reducing, being reduced by nature, whilst another energy, the extraterrestrial energy from the sun, solar, scales up, being increased by nature.
And look, use of it decreases entropy, it's the opposite effect of using extracted energy - real sustainable creation.
How long will it be, until this is recognised by all people, all the worker ants, and when will it be accepted that what we have to do with it, is monetise it, and shower it first on the ants at the periphery already in the process of genociding one another, like sugar, instantly defusing their efforts to annihilate one another?
How much genocide will we need to see, to learn this lesson?
