I couldn't agree more with what you have said here.

However, reading between the lines, we might have a difference in understanding of sustainability on Earth.

My own research of five years or so indicates we are already at the end of usable resources on Earth, so we now have to turn to the sun, and are doing so.

I believe nature is forcing our hand in this, manifesting in our economy, physical and mental health, and environment. I believe all of these effects including viruses and wars are all down to our handling of all energy consumed being extracted from the limited stocks and stored energies of Earth, as might have been necessary to date.

But far from bad news, this is actually really good news, at least for those of us who are lucky enough to survive the transition, and our species as a whole.

I believe we can liken our current stage of development to that of a baby just cut from umbilical cord, or chicken just hatching out of an egg, or even better, the shoot of a tree, sprouting its first leaves.

The energy required by the shoot to get to the point of sprouting leaves is drawn from the finite energy capital of Earth, it flows upwards, from Earth to the formation of leaves, in the opposite direction of the energy from sun to Earth. So we might define the energy flow from Earth to shoot as negative, relative to the energy flow of Sun to Earth.

After that, the energy through the shoot changes direction, and starts to flow from leaves to Earth, conducting energy positively, from Sun to Earth, via the tree, and the tree then grows to a size dwarfing the size of the shoot, scaling up the positive flow of energy to Earth, effectively by many orders of magnitude.

We might define that energy flow, of product added to Earth as positive.

In all of our history until very recently, all of our energy use has been negative, like the energy first used by the shoot, taken from finite stores, to grow ourselves, and develop our technology to the point of being able to collect the relatively unlimited energy of the sun.

We are now starting to sprout artificial leaves all over Earth, in the form of solar farms, which are starting to collect the energy of the sun, in a way that it is now having an effect on our economy.

So our energy use is in transition, from negative to positive.

We are seeing that for now as inflation, in all currencies.

Fundamentally, this is because Earth capital, as far as our economy is concerned, is no longer constant.

Solar product, added to the economy from the extraterrestrial source which is the sun, is scaling up, as it has to, just like the action in the tree.

The effect of this is to dilute the value of all capital which is perceived to be "Owned".

The only way to recover the value in any currency, after it starts to really slip, is to tie it to the Joules of energy coming from sunlight, converted to product.

To do that will require constant stimulus to all people for free, since the energy at the input is donated to us for free, by the sun (No work of extraction needed, therefore no promises to extract needed - then end of all debt, and debt utility), the money representing it has to be issued to all people for free.

There is no choice in that, this is nature forcing our hand, there is no other survivable outcome, unless somehow fusion comes to fruition (Which would not be good).

We have no choice but to use solar energy.

As hopefully you can see, this is an incredibly good outcome, especially for our planet, but there are some flies in the ointment, as you already mentioned, the possibility that some extremely negative suicidal megalomaniac(s) might be tempted to destroy everything for everyone, rather than see the value of what is effectively stores of negative energy in their possession, diminish. In any case it seems to me things could be very painful, or very easy, depending on the acceptance of the inevitability of positive energy use and its effects on economy, by money issuers.
