I concede nuclear plants currently in operation might as well be kept operational until we have the solar sourced energy to replace them, but resources which are currently scheduled / allocated towards futher expansion of nuclear capability seem like nails in our coffin to me, because they perpetuate the system of capital, which is the underlying driver of exploitation.
Those resources would be far better allocated towards new solar infrastructure. Even renewables is an unaffordable waste of time and money, if solar is not the focus. The reason we don’t see investors leaping at solar is economic, there is a fundamental impact, to the technical ability to continue practicing capitalism, when we go fully solar, it seems to me.
Imagine to an investor, the prospect of never again being able to control their own destiny by wielding capital, and we maybe start to understand.
The principle is explained in “Kardashev Money”. The story is not something I am particularly proud of or happy about. It is an observation of an inevitability, though I fully believe we will all feel we achieved a better world, afterwards.
How we get there looks currently like something which will be very painful for a lot of folks, but it depends on those currently in power. When will they be willing to give up their personal power and fortunes, for the good fortune of all?
I don’t know the answer to that. All I can say is, the longer they take, the more suffering will go on.
Nature is playing a game of chess with us, and she is at check, with one move to mate, it seems to me.
