I am with you to some extent, but you have to be careful with this kind of article that looks like it is blaming science for just about everything wrong, thus coming to an incorrect conclusion.
Any media about any subject that leaves out part of the truth, is in effect an advertisement; something that sells a particular narrative, whether intentionally or not.
Advertisements, I would argue are all driven by profit, something you alluded to in your article.
This one, you should be asking yourself what drove you to write it, how do you gain from it.
To me it looks like you are saying the environmental problem is not something we should worry too much about.
I might agree with you, if it was not also connected with the global economic problem.
We previously could manage occasional environmental disasters, when global economy was functioning reasonably well.
But now we can't because the economy is failing at the same time. We do not have the funds available, to deal with things like covid, floods, drought, fires, and well, war, even nuclear war.
The global problem of energy is somethng not covered by mainstream science, other than by the business of "Renewables" (Which is nonsense, when we trace to actual root causes and effect) because the only real solution to all of it is to end all possibilities of profit, which is systemically related to the energy problem, but upon which the vast bulk of the business of science, including all education, is itself based.
I am saying this as someone studying the problem as a previiously long practicing systems Engineer, coming onto the issue during a PhD candidacy on a related technical subject, in 2017. I've been studying it since then using all the skills and tools of formal Systems Engineering that I previously used to do business on many large scale Engineering projects, voluntarily, unpaid, because I see this problem is existential, affecting everything including economy.
The same root cause is behind the war, the flooding, droughts, heatdomes and forest fires in formerly permafrost areas,
It is a hyperobject, which by definition can't be analysed accurately on timescales. We might as well be watching the voltage difference between clouds building up, betting on when the bolt of lightning will appear.
The only antidote to this, is to remove the source of voltage buildup, whcih in this case is the way money issued as debt works, to ratchet up our energy deficit with our planet.
The only way to do that, is to issue money on the energy being received from the sun.
That means giving money to all people like a UBI.
This removes all pressure from all business and all people to remain solvent, therefore enabling us to get back to delivering all the good things we live to deliver, as well as completing our transition to 100% solar energy.
The only world politician who seems to have had a handle on this is a certain Mr Trump, who issued 4Tn per month stimulus per month in US, whilst the dollar climbed in value, oil prices went negative, and the environment showed the only positive spike of recovery recorded in history, reversing the view of many scientists that things like coral growth and fish stocks could never recover.
The only scientist who seems to have had a handle on this is a certain Nikola Tesla, who was defunded by his only funder, JP Morgan, prventing Tesla from delivering free energy and internet like connectivity.
No surprise now the same establishment as defunded Tesla has fallen out with Trump.
I am not a Trump supporter btw, far from it, the man is an amusing if sometimes offensive buffoon, but how did he know the issue of free money would work? I will let others research that for themselves.
Clue: there is a connection between Trump and Tesla.
In any case, it is a big mistake to think that either the economic problems or the climate problems are manageable by conventional means.
The systems Engineering shows that this not the case at all, it is all connected, and all put together it is existential, but no-one can predict timeframes. It could be next winter or even this summer, or it could be in maybe ten years. All we know is that if the voltage is not removed, then the lightning will occur, sooner or later.
My own approach to trying to get science to get a handle on this, to push it into mainstream, is in the story below (Be sure to read the linked numerical data backed story of the UK 50Bn black hole also linked there):
