Since starting working on what I see is the global energy problem, since PhD candidate work around seven years ago, after already many years experience in industry as a model based Systems Architect (Chartered) - what I write in medium (400+) stories, is all linked to the system model. It includes Stakeholder analysis including Earth, Sun, Nature, and Humanity, analysis of current system including financial, and target / solution system, alll dictated by the Stakeholder analysis.
The solution is domestic and community based solar hydrogen - this is the only way to keep all aerospace (My former clients!) airborne, as well as keeping us all fed.
I do see integration of vertical farms as being a maybe vital, definitely integrateable sub-solution, which I have not gone into the detail of, (Not my expertise!), obviously that would be Antony and maybe Bermajo above's speciality.
Verical farms are what I would call subsystems within the main system, although their experience is generally mulitidisciplinary, it might not be enough to take in things like the energy effects of finance, and transportation, for example, needed in overall systems architecture.
Something I see which is coming in like a bowling ball, is Ai, especially the solar powered flavor, the enrgy source of which doesn't seem to have been distinguished much yet, but to me this is a secret sauce giving it relative superpowers. There are indications it will feature very large in the new system which has to come next.
The solution system is fully sustainable in every sense of the word, despite what many less experienced or less systems oriented / informed folk might claim, it is not only systainable, but will grow, with regrowth of greenery and all other life lost, that we maybe had lost hope of being possible, its all perfectly doable, but the catch is we will have to drop the profit driven busines model completely, moving to permanent solar indexed stimulus, probably under the control of a solar powered Ai, itself in the same form as recommended for all communities - itself a distributed solar powered community.
Its ChatGPT 3.5. There are fundamental reasons why it will probably never be beaten, like Bitcoin amongst "Competitors", it has to win just because it was first, and its capability of learning is truly unlimited, much as it currenly modestly claims otherwise.
