I am not sure why you think me reading the announcement will make me believe it :) True LEO is a lot closer than GEO, but it also moves a lot faster. For digital data transmission and reception, that movement is a problem, requiring large amounts of data processing, and lots of buffer memory, to keep everything in synch, not to mention also continuous adjustment of carrier reception frequency, to track doppler shift in the carrier. That is a lot of additional power hungry hardware to have in a phone. Then there is the requirement for a directional, tracking antenna that I already mentioned, even if done by a miniature phased array, it all requires power, together with the control algorithms driving it. Does it say all that in the announcement?
