I am gonna be the devil’s advocate here, but bear with me; consider if it could be at all possible this was exactly the thought in Putin’s head, before he dived into Ukraine.
He is after all a KGB trained strategist, we should at least acknowledge that much.
It is rarely documented history that “His people” had been crying for help, and justice, in Donbass and Lugansk for eight years, but it is documented nonetheless.
Apparently around 14000 were already dead in those eight years.
And after his forces went in, we poured weapons into the mix.
Who is responsible then, for drawing things out, costing so many more lives?
Still think throwing Nato into the mix will make things better?
Where would it end, if Putin believes every bit as ferociously that he is right, and we are wrong?
If pushed, it seems nuclear war will be unavoidable.
Then, who will be right, and who wrong?
Would it even matter?
