I am going to be devil's advocate here, so don't take me too serious, this is just a thought exercise:
What if it wasn't Putin who did it, but us? In fact, didn't we already do it, after war war 2 was already technically ended, the Japanese were already in submission, but the US dropped not one but two nuclear bombs on them, and yet our culture is not wiped out, but the one dominating the world? Weren't those two bombs dropped in pure spite? Why should Russia, or indeed China now expect they will be treated any differently? The biggest mistake the US ever made, was to drop those two bombs on Japan. That was when the true monstrous nature of Western culture was revealed, and when unfinished business between East and West started. The score between East and West is two nil, to the West. Why wouldn't the East now be thinking they have a score to settle?
