I agree with your sentiment, everyone needs to learn how to work together, and that means we have to get rid of the for-profit business model.
It turns out when we do that, by connecting to the sun, which can only be had by giving up profit, we actually do get all of the creature comforts and luxuries we had before, and more, even the big gas guzzlers, they could be running on hydrogen.
