I agree with you in principle, but on electronics, the Chinese are way ahead now of what we've been able to do, because they put large budgets iinto research, they are doing things we just can't comprehend in "The West", It was an eye opener for me a few years ago (2019), to find that some of the technology I was expecting to have to develop towards a virtual world related PhD candidate project, after doing a comprehensive literature search to establish the state of the art, the search techniques available even then (Pre-Ai!) did not reveal Chinese research, I guess due to language barrier.
At that time Tesla were still using expensive lidar, to survey and capture 3d terrain around their EVs, whilst Chinese mobile phones already had inexpensive time-of-flight (TOF) cameras built into every day mobile phones, which totally trounced the 3d capture capabilities of expensive Lidar, including especially moving targets.
I bought two of those phones (Huawei) and took to Cuba to help some friends in dance business there, to motion capture their professional dancers, replacing what would have been expensive motion capture studios that they would have needed to set up, to similarly promote their cultural dances superimposed on avatars, seen in MMORP virtual worlds.
With the phone and appropriate apps, to mocap dancers we just point and shoot at multiple dancers and it captures every detailed skeletal movement, from any angle, even when we ourselves are moving, it works much better than any studio, and it works anywhere.
I think Tesla have cottoned on to this now, and updated their tech, but you can see at least part of the reason why Tesla is so much more expensive and actually less capable than Chinese equivalents, and actually why now we generally have trouble really analysing the energy usages of China and other advanced Asian countries, as to how clean their energy usage really is, due to use of advanced solar hydrogen technology, we literally don't understand it, we can't, we didn't invest in the R&D of it.
When folk like me try to clarify on it, we get ignored or ridiculed, or even accused of somehow "Working with the enemy", by doing any kind of business with sanctioned countries like Cuba, I even lost my business bank with all funds at the time because of that, because I worked with dance companies... I mean wtf.
We gotta start seeing some sense in all of this, we really do have some kind of wierd brain rot in the West, it seems to me.
