I agree with you, basically, though I am reluctant to call it degrowth, as to me that implies population reduction. The last thing we need is any kind of cull, everyone is needed and valueable in the phase that comes next.
On the massive fortunes currently claimed by those lucky enough to date to be in that bracket, what comes next will steadily devalue those fortunes, it seems to me.
All forms of capital are devaluing, even gold, relative to Bitcoin, if we look at that data over the history of Bitcoin.
I’ve explained in the Bitcoin Kardashev Hinge story why this phenomenon makes sense.
It has nothing to do with the capital value of Bitcoin, but what it is coming to represent; energy.
More than that, solar energy.
In the Kardashev Money story, I’ve explained we are receiving effectively donated Joules from the sun, which when put to use by us in the human economy, is product being added to the capital of Earth, thus diluting it.
So it has the opposite effect of using energy from the stores of Earth, which scarcifies wealth from the majority, in turn reinforcing the values of individual fortunes.
The end game of nature is that money has to come to be valued against energy, it seems to me.
Doing that, like we used to do with gold, will ultimately be the only way to stabilise the value of any money token, perhaps except Bitcoin which is a unique exception, the Kardashev Hinge.
So the end result is all power lost from holding capital, which effectively represents stored energy. Caoital will be worthless compared with working with money representing live energy.
The end result is everyone having to some extent, a supply of free money.
With that, no-one needs to do "Bullshit Jobs" (David Graeber), or run the Bullshit industries employing them, like those you identified working en masse, fossil fueled, proclaiming to be one day clean.
After everyone is effectively solar powered and solar funded, then the wealth of Kardashev money that accrues in a way that it becomes even, accross the population, will begin to be used to pay back down the energy deficit to our planet.
That is how I see it.
I can’t condense the whole picture into a reply like this (I have hundreds of storiies now in Medium) but hopefully you can see how it works, how that will move us away from being obsessed with individual profit, towards a more collective thinking, folk will be rewarded by being "Seen to do good", rather than being punished by scarcity enforcement for being "seen to do bad".
In the end, there is only one energy source, it is inevitable we have to use it sooner or later, and it is massively capable.
The sooner we use it for real, the better, I would say.
