I agree with the importance of preserving historical information, knowing also what I remember of events including the examples you showed here (I used to watch RT, as well as our own national news, when the former was a standard UK TV channel). But as to whether books or digital is more reliable, I would say distribution is everything, regardless of Medium. One of the most famous examples of books is the bible, and look how much it has obviously been interfered with, because it has become coveted and scarce at various times, coveted often for profit.
Books that were widely distributed are far more likely to be authentic, as we can cross-check copies against one another.
Hence why the internet is a pretty good method of capturing data, the instant we enter it, even what we are typing out here, it is replicated through billions of registers. If in the form of blockchain, it is truly unalterable. But even non blockchain, if it seems to have been twisted by successive accounts, it is usually for profit, and only "Skin deep", the original source material still exists, buried beneath the sales pitches, just we have to dig for it, imho.
