I agree with everything you've said here Indi, except for one thing I think you left out, that there is a way out.

We get a clue how by looking at how plants work.

They extract their energy from Earth to grow as shoots upwards from the Earth, until the point they form leaves. During that infant phase of their lives, they are hauling energy up out of the Earth against the forces of gravity, in the form of nutrients, sucked into their roots from the Earth. In that phase, none of the energy they get is for free, the plant always has to expend energy to haul the nutrients upwards, it has to per-Joule work, for every Joule obtained.

After the shoot forms leaves, the nutrient flow has to change direction again, from upwards, to downwards. driven both by the energy coming in from the leaves from solar, and by gravity.

What we've done in all of our history prior to solar is similar to a plant taking all its energy from Earth, we've extracted all our energy from Earth, using money-as-debt (or capital) as a kind of gearchain.

In a way, that money has done for us what the nutrients in the tree shoot did, before the leaves formed.

Now our leaves are forming as solar farms all over Earth, we are putting the energy received from those, more than tens of GigaJoules per second in every developed country, into use, but as yet we have never officially issued money on it, we still only issue money as debt.

Because money is not truly reflecting the increasing amount of solar energy in use, it is devaluing, and will continue to do so until it is issued for free to all people, to reflect the Joules of energy coming in for free.

This would be us using money to do the same function as the nutrients in adult trees, transporting the energy from the leaves to everything in nature needing it.

I have every confidence this will happen forced by nature, one way or another, the only thing I worry about is that some idiots in power might think it is already all over, and kill us all anyway, like some fucked up parents have been known to do with their kids, when they think the end is near.

They might well think that, if they can't see the way out, it seems to me.
