I agree GPT can be very cool, but it worries me a little that its output is already being used to justify and successfully sell things like geoengineering (And probably war), to investors.
There is at least one such project underway, in Mexico, by high profile US university "Scientists". They raised investor funds for the activity using GPT generated sales pitch.
Does GPT know or care that this is destructive testing with our planet, and the survival of all of life on it? I guess not.
Putting too much faith in GPT too soon, is resulting in some people, unfortunately very influential people, losing sanity, it seems to me.
Placing and taking bets on Russian Roulette, was the indirect subject of an old movie, "The deerhunter".
In it, "The deer" was a US GI, left to forage for survival in war torn Vietnam, after withdrawal of all his peers.
He'd fallen into the hands of Vietnamese Street gamblers, who encouraged lesser fortunate individuals to put their lives at risk duelling with one another to the death in games of Russian Roulette, betting on the outcome.
The deer had somehow survived this life much longer than anyone sane might expect, winning all his duels as if by some kind of supernatural power, becoming celebrated, seemingly in the belief he could do forever.
The deerhunter, was an old buddy of the deer, on a Mission to try to recover him from Vietnam.
He knew it was only a matter of time until the deer's luck ran out.
He tried to convince the deer of this but failed, the deer insisting on continuing dueling.
The deerhunter then had to witness his old friend finally shooting himself in the head in a final duel.
Sane people know that taking such a risk has to end with the worst outcome, sooner or later.
Only insane people take the risk anyway.
In the case of Geoengineering, and war inevitably leading to nuclear, the consequences are not only on the part of the individuals involved, but all of us.
Effectively, the gun they are playing Russian Roulette with, taking bets on the outcome by investing in it, is aimed at all of our heads, not just theirs.
Sane people know this.
Insane people don't.
That's why I fully understand why some people might identify GPT as something truly evil.
It provides a scapegoat, that is being used to justify continuing to do things likely to end the world.
"The GPT did it", could be the last thing left, set in stone.
