I actually thought looking at the title of your story you were going to talk about a solar power revolutiion, which would take place resulting in us having made the transition to a new solar powered world by 2025.
That is about the timescale that becomes clear, when we look at how quickly the world could go solar, if it "Put its mind to it", right now.
The probabilty of the kind of solar event you talk about here looks highly unlikely to me.
Like I said to another respondent, it seems a little like worrying about being struck by lightning, not much we could do about it if it happened, and it is such a tiny probability of occurrence, no point in dwelling on it.
On a more philosiphical, maybe religious sounding note, if the sun was indeed conscious, as we might interpret it to be, it stands as the sole issuer and enforcer of all energy in nature.
Since we don't use it correctly, even now that we are putting more than tens of GigaJoules of it into practical use in every developed country, the one thing we are not doing correctly is valuing it honestly.
That is because we are not formally issuing money on it, because such money would have to be issued to all people, since the Joules received are donated to us from the sun for free.
If we did that, then we would be enabling humanity as a species to become like plants in nature, our money would be carrying out a similar function as the nutrients in plants, carrying the energy received by its leaves, to all needing it.
By my analysis this inevitably has to happen in any case, due to inflation, which appears to be down to this same mismatch between solar energy that we put to use, and solar energy monetised, and if it happens before we completely transition to solar, then our transition will be very swift from that point onwards.
I wonder if we will be so quick to see solar as something hostile after that?
Anyway, thanks for posting, I appreciate any story that inspires me enough to write in response :)
