I actually like the fact that lots of companies are spending large R&D on ML, without necessarily applying it. At the very least, employees, who are mobile, are educating themselves on its capabilities, and often, they are realising it is being under utilised, if not completely abused, by being applied to data harvesting for profit. So they move on to projects where it might be more effectively used to benefit humanity, rather than to exploit it. ML is a small slice of Ai, which is surely destined for bigger things than just harvesting data for profit.
