A thought experiment for you: Imagine the scenario if it was to turn out money is much more useful used as a Medium of transport of wealth, in a way that it becomes useless by itself as a Medium of storage of wealth, thus becomes something freely issued in quantity to all humans in a way that empowers all to work in non-profit mode, at whatever activity they choose.

Would we still trade in markets?

From your story, I am guessing your answer would be yes.

And yet, we would no longer be driven by the need to profit.

So our reasons for wishing to trade would be that we wished to participate in something democratic, effectively “voting” for the things we see as important to the world, by putting some of our free money towards them.

Wouldn’t that be kinda cool :)
