Good point John, it would be cool to know if anyone has done formal studies on the energy content of materials shed by the tree in its lifetime, as well as the directionality of nutrients supplied to/from the tree via its roots.

Your thoughts on time certainly sound like god-like thinking to me! We might aspire to somehow putting some of that into a formal system model. Definitely food for thought, thanks for that :)
