The problem of the thirty year hiatus in penicilin research is particularly interesting, maybe Ai will go some way to renewed efforts there as hoped.

My understanding of it is that a lure of more lucrative research exists in other areas than penicilin.

If those areas will benefit similarly from application of Ai, then maybe no change.

The real challenge, for young and old heads alike, is in finding alternative business models for things like pharma.

From the point of view of shareholders, and maybe some invested employees, pharma as it stands is a great business to be in. Lots of money to be made, for sure.

Not so good from the point of view of folks who need treatment but can’t afford it though.

Unfortunately, the world will not be saved at profit.
