For sure the power consumption argument against blockchain is a ridiculous red herring designed to pollute the idea of blockchain.

Besides all blockchains being different, some distributed ledger, arguably not blockchain has very low power requirements (IOTA for example).

Also, something never pointed out is that Bitcoin, and each of the other coins designed to have progressively more work required to mine them will, one day, go beyond the point of being economic to create. So the power load of creating them will one day completely stop.
