Edward thanks for your enlightening article. I am probably in the older generation bracket you mean, but not all are willing participants like Varoufakis, most of us are prisoners in the old system he is trying to prop up. Personally I've come to the realisation that capital has to go, and to that end, most of us need to ditch the profit driven mindset to be able to see it. We need to move economy from Capitalism to Energyism, I believe, based on solid physics and maths, way above politics. I found it very encouraging you highlighted the deadly connection between fossil fueled energy, and economy, I've written many articles around the same subject. I've called the subject "Kardashev Engineering". In this, I believe new ground has been covered, since I strayed into it from a metaverse related PhD, it became apparent to me that it is fundamentally not possible to offer a true metaverse which lives from its members, there has to be an external source of income, which is then distributed to all members, in order for the real magic of creativity to happen. And because a real metaverse is actually a simulation of reality, that is a kind of proof that the real world has to go non-profit, funded from external wealth also, which brings us to the energy connection, the only source of actual energy is from the sun, all other forms of energy on Earth are capital, and our human financial debt translates directly to an energy deficit to our planet, so the real grand ponzi is actually an energy Ponzi, that we've played for thousands of years.
Now we can see a depleted capital energy shortage war breaking out, our governments in Europe are starting to talk about relevant things, my usual income is from (Now occasional) defence contract Systems Engineering, and they are starting to talk about implementing "Renewable" energy as a defence measure, to protect against the vulnerability they are realising from being dependent on fossil resources from Russia, so that is encouraging, but not many seem to have taken notice of my work in Medium, relative to other far more popular topics, like who / what is sexist / racist / and what not, so I worry somehow this will be missed until it is too late to put rapidly devaluing funds on development of the solar infrastructure needed, as it is the only way out of the mess we are in, it seems to me.
I have no crypto resources of my own, only technical knowledge gathered over the years, including construction of ICO's (Never launched), and had my "Fingers burned", by banks who froze funds, ensuring I would stay away thereafter, but I still agree with you, crypto is unstoppable, except perhaps by nuclear war, which at this stage in the environmental crisis, would stop all life. In fact crypto is also a vital physical component in truly sustainable solar energy.
I would welcome any suggestions you might have, on how to progress?
