Dude even if the sensors are up to the task, the targeting algorithm can't have the bandwidth needed to control it to a head on collision, because the processing power did not exist then. Sorry to burst any bubbles.
It was made when mach 12 was not possible, there is no way around that.
Can you imagine how dangerous it is to overestimate the capability of our weaponry vs the weaponry of an opponent?
I can't think of a more stupid mistake to make.
