Don't you know about fuel cells? I was surprised also to find out how they work, much simpler than they sound, they contain no rare or toxic elements or chemicals, and can be reversibly charged just like batteries, with no harmful emissions.

If all electrical power used to charge them is from solar, then the problem is solved.

Even better, if they are vented to allow release of pressure, rather than charged, the gas they generate is green hydrogen, which can in turn fuel combustion engines, just like fossil fuels, but with no harmful emissions, we can even breathe the exhaust fumes directly.
