Coronavirus Is Forcing Us to Use Technology Correctly, For Now.
But What about Later?
Drones. Facial Recognition. Number plate recognition. Cellphone geographical tracking. Body temperature monitoring. Cameras. Artificial Intelligence.
In fact, all kinds of surveillance technology are being used in an apparent campaign against the coronavirus, COVID-19.
Just for a change, those technologies are being used correctly; towards the welfare of humanity.
Thoughts of saving the economy are necessarily giving way, to thoughts of saving humanity.
Even better, thoughts of repairing the economy are being questioned.
What the coronavirus crisis has done, is accelerate use of surveillance technologies to a level which would absolutely and very obviously be dystopian, if it was not being done for our own good.
Surveillance technology for profit, by governments and big business was proceeding, mostly by stealth, with occasional public outcry, following revelations by folk like Julian Assange, Edward Snowden, and Chelsea Manning.
What we are seeing right now is a glimpse of the future with surveillance technology, had it been allowed to continue being used for profit, except that right now, it is being used for our benefit.
But what happens after the coronavirus is made safe, is another matter.
The old economy might be repaired; patched up, like it was in 2008, and allowed to continue pitting us against one another in social media like a modern version of Roman Slaves gladiating against one another, for the amusement of the masses, and at profit of a few, as it was before the coronavirus (in some ways, it is still happening), racing zero-sum towards an ever more polluted showdown with our environment, which would come along after even more precious Earth bound resources have been wasted.
But, there is another kind of formally programmed automatic economy, based on crypto-currency based open bounties, which would work completely differently, putting those otherwise intrusive surveillance technologies to maximum effect, working for us, instead of being used against us.
In essence, this involves generating an income from our data, which is paid directly to us.
Such a system can be made, with the assistance of non-profit Ai, to recognise our data in the most favourable way, such that all people, whether or not they are creatives or dynamic by nature, receive maximum value from their data, and all people are automatically encouraged to work together in teams, and/or individually, where each person is ideally equipped and motivated to carry out the function that their individual nature is most suited to do.
That system can begin with a few formally programmed basic rules, and be fully automatic, grown under the control of the population of all people, to envelope all of the existing functions of society, in an ideal way, which meets the needs of all humanity.
The system can take as its input of wealth, the energy of the sun.
Since energy directly translates to wealth, this is the natural source of wealth for all people, independently of the stored energy resources of Earth, such as fossil fuels and nuclear power.
This would remove our dependence on fossil and nuclear, allowing us to be born from the “womb” of our planet, as a truly united species.
