Cool article, we can see there is a real problem with social media. But the problem behind it is that it is driven entirely by profit.
The problem is not social media. it is profit driven social media. The self learning algorithms of those are primed to recognise and maximise every opportunity of sensationalism and controversy, because this maximises profits.
I suspect far worse is yet to come, as these algorithms learn more and more how to press our outrage buttons.
It is up to people now to develop non-profit alternatives, designed to add value to the users themselves, rather than to the platform owners and shareholders.
There are all kinds of possibilities of financial self-support in Distributed Ledger Technology based social media, but they need funding, and government support. Ideas to get this are what is needed.
