Capitalism / profit, and intellectual property (IP) is logically the reason for this, it seems to me.
In the profit driven system, we must ensure our time spent thinking is "Productive", by increasing our financial security, We creat artifacts and books that claim those thoughts are the new truth, and that we personally own and possess those thoughts. As such they are a form of capital.
No-one wants the claimed value of their IP to be questioned or overturned because their financial security depends on it.
So any thoughts and activities not seen as profitable to invest in, including things that might undermine capitalism itself will not be funded.
Solar energy comes into that category, it removes all advantage of capital, when when we finally monetise solar product, but it is impossible to define profits with solar energy, since it is unlimited and continuous, the returns are infinite, not comparable to the finite sums that might go into obtaining it, therefore it is rarely funded or supported, as folk still don't seem to see how it can enrich them.
Effective use of solar will thus remove the conventional boundaries of what should and shouldn't be considered as science.
Personally I can't wait, it can't come fast enough. But we are very close now.
