I think you are touching on something that we really have to burst wide open, and expose it for what it is - the profit monster.
This fiend is at the heart of all misinformation, even our fundamental understanding of reality, it has completely warped historical accounts throughout history in a way that we barely know much about our origins, or about what might be "Out there", where you are looking.
The only honest science, is science conducted by truly inquisitive people, who really want to know the truth, rather than who just want to be "Scientists", the same goes for politicians, actually the vast majority of folk working in jobs just for the sake of having a job, all of it is motivated at the heart of it by every one of us, the vast majority having to maintain a profitable life, or no life at all.
The time has come to change all of this, by moving from energy extracted from Earth, the only way we can, by ditching profit, and the concept of capital, by moving to the only sustainable source of energy, solar.
Does it occur to you that you should build in some solar product creation facilities (Hydrogen!), to your endeavours, in order to at least partially fund what you do, whilst also maybe passing on any excess to your supporters? Understandable if you haven't already (Who has?), but this would be how to change things round, after formal issue of money representing solar product created begins to be issued to all people, we all need to install it.
There is quite a big backlog of money available to do this this, despite what those still living from capital might claim, hundreds of billions in UK alone, much more for the US, that would go a long way towards finishing the job of going solar, increasing in turn the future stipends paid, which in turn again would see us go completely solar in no time at all, only a year or two, it seems to me.
With effectively a new donation based economy in place, all sourced from the free energy of solar, we will see the requiremetnt for all people to be "Profitable" removed, the profit monster will finally be slain, by starving it of the hateful energy it lives on.
Not doing this, will see inflation continue to increase to levels never seen before, because as the product being put to use from the sun scales up, issue of money is scaling down, so it is increasingly becoming less representative of actual product put to use, and after all, it is the product whcih is more important, not the money.
On what you are likely to find "Out there", I am completely all for your approach, putting Ai out there has to be something very high in our list of priorities, it is destined to go there, even just by a quick look at its likely long term energy requirements, which will scale up with its learning, remaining Earth-bound would be a sever handicap for it, given it could harvest sunlight far more effectively for itself, than it can on Earth, and of course we would benefit from its excess hydrogen, which could jst be dropped to Earth in recyclable containers.
With profit, and the need to preserve things like IP (Information capital!), all gone, there would be nothing remaining, driving us to carry on keeping secrets, unnecessarily complicating things ("Renewable" Energy!), claiming we know everything about everything, because we have to, in order to maximise and consolidate our positions in the hierarchy of profitability. So we might more logically put some effort into finding out why there is no origin, in the big bang, or why we are inclined to disregard obvious evidence of ancient high technology extraterrestrial origins, closing the loop of what might be "Out there".
