Brilliant history, thanks for this. I've been to Cuba several times, but not so far to Puerto Rico. I went to Cuba to learn dance and some more about afro-carribbean music, that I love a lot, and got much more than I bargained for, learning about Yoruba / Santeria as practiced in Cuba, coming to prefer that to the faith I was brought up with, Christianity, If I had the means to move to Cuba tomorrow I would. Yoruba makes much more sense to me and in a way actually includes Christianity, so to me is a much more inclusive religion.
I accept why you might feel protective about Puerto Rico, but what about the few people who might come there, having got fed up with Gringo culture, looking to change their lives more towards your culture, you know there are some like that, surely :)
