Boeing just looks to me like the latest aerospace company to be in process of succumbing to what is an underlying growing shortage of usable / extractable energy in the environment.
The first indications of this were the loss of things like the space shuttle (Reusable spacecraft), and concorde (Supersonic commercial flights)
Since Aerospace is probably the most sensitive business to energy availability, which in turn is directly related to profitability (More difficulty in extraction means higher overheads, more difficulty to maintain profitability), the safety crises seen are the ultimate outcome of having to continually, more progressively cut corners on safety and reliability.
This is just one of the inevitable outcomes of an economy that relies directly on profit, and thus availability of extractable energy in the environment, which also is the root cause also of planetary destruction / entropy increase.
It's a foresight of what we will have, if we can't break out of the loop of energy slavery, which is what we practice as a species, we will see progressively more cost to life, as extractable energy in the evironment continues to deplete.
I write a lot about the alternative to that, which will be had by going to domestic and community based solar hydrogen, but which in turn requires the issue of permanent solar indexed stimulus to all people.
This is the only way we will ever see any kind of recovery of the world we believed we would have by profit, but found now by both trial and error, and formal systems Engineering analysis, is impossible by profit.
The only question remaining now, is when will start issuing the needed stimulus, this including actual, honest monetisation of economic product already created from solar historically as well as ongoing.
