At last some analysis that makes some sense, thanks for posting. I thiink this fits also with the implications on energy. Fact remains we are running out of fuel, and Russia is squandering what it has in a needless war, probably instigated by the US with allies.
I bet China won't be happy with that either, because it means higher oil prices for them too.
Short of carrying on consuming dwindling fossil resources and polluting, there is a pragmatic way out being discussed by some with sense, identifying the need to remove dependence on Russian fossil resources, by implementing clean "Renewable" energy infrastructure known to be needed in future in any case, as a defence investment.
I bet the war mongers didn't expect that, but personally I see it as good because as a long practicing defence contracting Systems Engineer myself, I've been working on the required systems for a number of years now, knowing they will be needed soon. Hence my own 200+ stories in Medium.
It is just such a shame that the driver to finally move to Kardashev 1.0+ had to come with such trajic loss of life, not only in Ukraine, but in all places people are dying due to colonialism and war, which can only get worse, ultimately until the fix is made.
So it isn't with any sense of triumph I write now, just deep sadness that things had to get this bad before we started to see some sense as a species. I hope we won't wait until it gets even worse, to appropriately act on it, otherwise there will come a point when it really is too late, not only for us humans but for all of life on Earth.
Defence spending needs to focus on implementation of domestic "Renewables", specifically solar and green hydrogen energy infrastructure, without further delay, in every country.
We need that as the next arms race. Even Russia would be forced to follow suit if we started.
