Appeal for Support
This is a subject close to my heart, since I was one of the on-site Systems Engineers who helped convert what was the military airport of RAF St Mawgan, near Newquay, Cornwall, UK, into the commercial civilian Newquay and Cornwall Airport, 2007–2008.
Part of the development there, was a new aviation focused innovation park, intended to house existing and startup SMEs, as a kind of aviation technology accelerator.
Today comes news that one of the highest profile startups there has had its lease terminated by the local Council landlords.
It is the Newquay Aviation Heritage Museum, so something with considerable heritage value. I visited with family a few years ago, and was well impressed, feeling more than a little pride that the work we did on the airport helped make it happen.
But that isn’t what hurts me the most about this news. Actually the issue affecting the museum is much bigger than something local, in fact it threatens modern civilisation in the UK, and actually all around the world.
It is an extension of, and a manifestation of the energy problem that I am always writing about in Medium.
This problem will send us back to the dark ages, if we let it.
In essence, it is indirectly due to our transition to the energy of the sun. This is a great thing in its own right, but the fundamental problem we are seeing, is that no money is issued on the significan economic product created by it, and this will sooner or later, remove all value from money. I don’t mean just ten, twenty, thirty, or even fifty percent, I mean all value, 100%.
Forget about renewable energy, that term is a complete water muddier, which obscures what is actually physically happening, to the value of money itself, the underlying reason for inflation, and all the financial problems we are seeing. This is not as a result of covid, as the mainstream often claims. Covid itself, at least the shambles we made of dealing with it, was also a manifestation, of the same, growing issue underlying the whole business of profit.
This issue actually goes back to when the oil booms in the US, and our own mini-boom in the North Sea, came to an end, before even my daughter was born, in 2003.
That was when profit, began to become slightly more difficult than it had been, until then. At that time, energy supply margins began to be squeezed, and this systemically propagated out to all things. Since then, this squeezing has become progressively more acute, with the result that now, it is very difficult to maintain any Western business “In profit”, almost all businesses still in profitable business are doing so by a number of dubious business practices, including selling nothing, but still taking money from customers receiving nothing, and of course accepting every grant available from government or otherwise.
Hence we can identify that period, when things like Concorde, and the Space Shuttle, ended, as the beginning of the end, for capitalism.
By that I mean technical capitalism, not an ideology, but the physical handling of money, assets, and actually all commodities including energy, as various forms of financial capital.
Technology, especially aerospace technology, is retreating, back towards the dark ages.
How much human beneficial technology are we willing to let disappear, back into the darkness of history?
The rate these things are happening is becoming frightening, to anyone stopping to take a look around, almost everything truly beneficial to humans, everything we consider to be indicative as improving quality of life, the trappings of civilisation, are disappearing, rapidly.
We lost supersonic space flight, and are now facing losing flight, full stop, except for maybe the odd plane of the super-rich, which itself will not keep aerospace technology alive.
Add to this everything else human beneficial we can think of, including health services, public transport, a decent living wage, or income of any kind, energy bills ramping up to impossible levels, obviously something has to give.
The museum disappearing from Newquay airport is just the latest in what will be a continuous and acclerating slide, back to the dark ages.
How long until all the other SMEs there disappear, if they haven’t already?
How long until the airport itself is closed?
How long until most of the airports in UK are closed?
Where does it stop, if we allow this to continue?
Most frustrating of all, is that I know what the solution is now, how to stop the rot. The solution is fairly complex, difficult to communicate, not only to the egos in control, wielding their capital as usual, and the public, worried, but unable to distinguish truth from a constant ad-stream of fiction presented as fact, generated by the dying, profit driven world.
Very simply, all of this can be turned around, the problem fixed, instantly.
It will happen, when money is issued to reflect the solar product created but not yet put to economic use.
The proof is below:
So if you want things to change, sooner rather than later, demand the money, but you know we are probalby going to have a wait, before that happens.
Meantime, to stop the Museum closing for now, perhaps preserving also the possibility one day we will breathe new life into things like Concorde, and the Space Shuttle, please join the petition to save the museum.
