Andrew, firstly thanks for your input, I appreciate your background and am glad to see your attention here.
What you see of mine in Medium is a product of now five years+ of research, as a Systems Engineeer of thirty years, after some things became apparent to me during PhD candidate work on a metaverse related project.
(A metaverse is just a simulation of the real world, with some virtual extensions, which tell us some useful information about the real world, and how to fix it)
If you dig, you'll find about 270 stories I have in Medium, on this subject. But the nature of the platform, and the problem, is that the nature of the problem is secondary to making profit, and in a way my stories undermine even the business of profit, so they are not very well promoted in what is a wholly profit driven system, so no-one really knows much about the ground I've covered, as yet, it seems.
In essence, we are running out of usable energy which comes from capital of Earth, in other words energy from fuel extracted from the materials or stored energies of Earth, not from sunlight.
There are arguments by many standard profit driven business folks, even those from so-called "Green" industry that solar isn't enough, because really they can't see the business case in it.
But it is enough for nature which created everything we know from just sunlight.
And when we dig into the nature of sunlight compared with all of the other things we've always used to generate our power, it is distinctly different, mathematically different, with big implications on our economy.
Our economy will need to change, to make this switch to solar.
After this is done, is when we will see the full value of solar, it seems to me.
The truth is we do not formally include the effects of sunlight in our economy, because in our perception, the difference it makes seems negligible in our human timescales.
But now we are starting to sprout solar farms all over the world like the leaves on a tree, those input something very positive to Earth, in a similar way as the nutrients from a tree flow from the leaves to Earth, completing the energy connection from sun to Earth, we can no longer ignore the fundamental difference.
What we are doing with solar, is enhancing the energy connection from sun to Earth in actually a very big way, which is impossible by any other means of power generation, in fact the time and energy we spend on those things is just more time and energy wasted, it seems to me.
I refer to this kind of energy wastage maybe a little harshly, as "Bullshit Business", no offence meant, we are all doing it until we really go solar.
In an effort to try to clarify this information, I felt it necessary to coin some distinctive terms, all searchable in both Google and Medium, which lead to the more recent parts of the systems analysis, as it seems to me, knowing the current state of the art in Systems Engineering, these terms are needed to clearly distinguish this work which is based on understanding the full power of working with solar.
"Kardashev Engineering", "Kardashev Money", and "Kardashev Hinge", are some examples I already used, but can see some potential for "Kardashev Fuel", and "Kardashev Food" (Check out "Solein" in Google)
Hydrogen generation is key to solving the local intermittency and distribution problems of solar, it is an integral component in the Kardashev System Solution, since hydrogen funcitonally replaces fossil fuels with none of the pollution in its generation or consumption, as are hydrogen fuel cells which functionally replace batteries. Further, hydrogen is the activator for "Kardashev Food" ("Solein"!)
The more we look at this, the more we start to see that there are two ways of using energy, one positive and one negative.
Negative, is when energy is extracted from Earth, and positive, is when energy is added to Earth.
Nature actually uses a little negative energy to push up the shoot of a plant to the point it sprouts leaves and begins to conduct solar energy to Earth. After that the plant grows to a size dwarfing the shoot, whilst scaling up the solar energy positively conducted to Earth, from the sun.
We might see humanity right now, as being like a shoot which has just begun to sprout leaves, or like a baby which is having its umbilical cord cut, or like a chicken in an egg, faced with the prospect of having to break out of its shell.
When we understand this, everything else becomes clear; the reason we had covid, the reason we have inflation, the reason we are at war, the reason we have so many divisions in humanity, the reason we have pollution and climate problems, the reason our health, welfare, and all necessary services are falling apart, all of it becomes clear.
So the best bit (or oblivion!) has to come next. Humanity will decide, it seems to me, and I feel lucky to be seeing this period of history, no matter what the outcome. We are very priveliged to be alive to see this very exciting transition of human history.
A story I hope helps give an intro, leading to some of the more core stories is this one:
