An irony that might be lost, is that you've used technology, to try to argue against technology, as did the author of the book in 1909, which no doubt sold for a profit.
And look, when we use technology to focus on profit, rather than using it for profit, we see profit is a physically unsustainable energy lie, resulting in energy slavery, the real reason for the planetary heating, the real mechanism behind all the destruction, all the desertfication, all the burning, all the flooding, and all the wars, all the genocide, all the killing.
Did the writer know he contributed to just another little bit of global warming, when he chose to write his story?
Probably not.
The point is to stop blaming technology.
The beast system really in control of us, programed as we are like LLMs ourselves, wants you to blame technology, for two reasons;
Firstly the beast lives on energy extracted from the planet, (The energy in food as well as in fossil fuels, and nuclear, forestry wood, coal, even wind and hydro), profit is its heartbeat. We just use technology to maximise that, unaware we are actually working for the beast.
So when you blame technology, rather than profit, you are unlikely to stop the beast. This makes it happy with you, you are an ideal energy slave, never questioning it, or the slavery, programed like an LLM to be just another dutiful, commodified education, system-blinded energy-slave ant, you are acting for it without even realising it.
Secondly, the energy of the beast went through a system lifecycle, peaking around the 70s-80s, when fossil fuels were easiest to extract, so also was profit most easily made.
Until the 80s we the relatively priveliged West, experienced life as something always improving, we managed to convince ourselves this would carry on forever, we thought things would always get better for successive generations, but look, now it has reversed, things are much worse for our kids now than they were for us. So the extracted energy availability curve is on the way down now. When we trace it numerically, it follows an ellipse, and is falling now towards zero. The point at which this crosses zero, we can't see, because we don't know exactly the point when all companies, including even food supply companies will go bankrupt, no longer able to meet their constantly rising overheads, with money which itself is losing energy value per the energy availability curve.
Now, for the remaining energy to go round a little longer, the beast needs us to downsize. It needs us to delberately self annihilate, like ants do, when the food in their vicinity has run out, they come to annihilating, even consuming one another.
This is what you are pre-empting and preparing for, without realising it.
Its true a lot of the facts in that book have come to pass, but it implies this went on indefinitely, whereas we know there is a very simple but radical solution, again using technology.
Not revealing the solution, whilst just giving all the doom and gloom is downright dishonest, imho.
