Agree deleting records of history, even if they were wrong at the time is a bad idea. Personally I think Metcalfe's law should be elevated to statutory law, to underpin all reasoning used in questions of whether or not to delete or cancel this or that information or source of information.
We actually can never know how valuable information might be in future, just like we can never know how valuable any human can be before they live their / our lives, we never know who the next Einstein might be, hence why It's really bad we are now allowing kids to be exterminated. This has got to be one of the lowest ebbs of human history, when we've come again to genocide.
It would suit the genociders perfectly to just wipe all records of it out if they could, as they / we seem to have done previously, on many occasions.
Another physical law it violates actually, given we are learning destruction is directly related to temperature rise, is the relationship between temperature and information, every binary bit of information deleted in history, raised temperature by an amount given by 0.69 x Boltzman's constant in degrees C or K.
Notice profit often requires deletion of information. An example that comes to mind is a creator in a virtual environment. We've seen many creators that created a lot of things in Second Life for example, pass away. The things they created are most often hosted on runnng hardware for which energy bills have to be paid.
The creator paid for those bills, with some energy profit for the second life company by their subscriptions. Those subscriptions no longer available the second life company has to foot the energy bills itself, or delete the creators data and allow someone else to then take up "owning" or renting that space.
Obviiously the Second Life company has to choose to delete, to survive itself, and yet this deletion removes value to all other users, reducing the attraction of the virtual world to other users.
Its dying, just like the real world.
But it could be saved if it went solar powered, no more energy bills, no more need to make profit, no more need to charge users, in fact maybe even funds to reward users for free, by money-fuel tree type infrastructure, encouraging and empowering creation, and global cooling instead of global heating.
Sorry if I seemed to have gone off topic a little, but isn't everything actually about energy?
