Absolutely agree. I have similar background and experience as yourself and came to the same conclusion about six years ago.
Since then I've spent a lot of time using the Systems Engineering skills and tools I gained in profit driven industry to work out what is fundamentally wrong, and what needs to be done to fix it.
It looks like we might actually be doing something very cool, as a species, being born, moving from the energy of our host planet, to the energy of its environment, realising then that all along we were building a machine which has the function of adding value to our planet, like a plant does in nature, but which has never yet been really switched on.
It gets switched on, when we monetise solar product received, by issue of massive permanent stimulus, which effectively will be a very generous UBI for every human, whilst adding incredible value to our planet.
That will be the end of capitalism, and the beginning of something new, Energyism.
Meantime, inflation is being driven by solar product actually outstripping issue of money.
Inflation, will make it progressively more difficult to make profit, in all scenarios. This can't be countered by anything except issue of the required funds to reflect the solar product put to use.
In UK since 2005 that is around 257Bn to date, 50Bn this year alone, maybe another 120Bn to be added in the coming year, current trends continuing.
In US it must be an awful lot more.
You might be tempted to have a look at the utilities energy data coupled with demographics data yourself, applicable to the US, assuming you are from there, to maybe make an estimate applicable to your area, in the time you save for yourself by officially "Working to Rule" :)
The technique of analysis is covered in my story named something like "Filling the UK 50Bn Black hole with light". Sorry my current handheld device doesn't reliably post links in Medium, but you should be able to find with Medium search in my profile.
Thanks for posting your story, I am really happy to see more and more folk latching onto what is happening.
