Absolutely agree. Metcalfe's law should apply to all scenerios of data circulation and suppression. Witholding data is pretty much always done for profit, which is an energy con resulting in the destruction of the planet. Metcalfe's law should be made global statutory legislation imho. The only person who should have any say in whether or not data goes public, is whoever generated the data, and if they are dead, it should automatically go free. That is not to say we should divulge data we are obliged to keep secret by maybe official agreement, but we can do our best to influence governments to change their minds about things in general, I guess.
